SSAI NEWS – EXECUTIVE AT WORK

TASK FORCE – At the NPF Convention, a National Task Force was established to review the organization and provide recommendations to the executive for growing the organization in terms of membership, finances, advocacy, communications. Saskatchewan’s President, Pat Trask, is one of the five representatives serving on this committee.

 

NPF Advocacy Committees – Mike Kaminski, 2nd VP NPF and SSAI is the executive liaison of the Health Committee that will be collecting seniors perspectives and research in regards to seniors issues on a national basis. The four member committee are: Chair – Kathleen Jamieson, JoAnn Lauber (BC), Winnie Fraser McKay (PEI) and Alma Johnston (Nova Scotia).  The first Conference Call meeting was held on Jan. 26. The draft reports will be presented to the executive at the end of April. The final reports will be presented at the national convention in Nova Scotia next October.

 

Federal Consultation – Mike Kaminski had a very productive meeting with MP Cathay Wagantall. The discussion focused on Seniors’ Issues both at the provincial and federal levels.

The Petitions are in the process of being forwarded to the government to provide some consideration for seniors and to try to bring some favourable action by them. Thank you for your support!

Meeting with Danielle Chartier – Opposition Critic

Pat Trask and Mike Kaminski met with Danielle to highlight the issues being faced by seniors in Saskatchewan. Many positives were developed by this collaborative meeting.

Press Release – SSAI submitted a letter to the ministers of Health and released a press statement to identify the perceived impacts of the gov’t’s 2017 budget.

Meeting with Sask. Gov’t Health Services Committee – Pat Trask and Mike Kaminski met with this group comprised of five government MLA’s – Mark Doherty, Muhammad Fiaz, Nadine Wilson, Hugh Nerlien, chaired by MLA Dan D’Atremont.. The seniors’ issues over the past five years, key issues regarding the budget were presented. SSAI emphasized the need for more and better communications – collaboration with Sask. Seniors.

SSAI – Seniors’ Club Support 2017

Thank you to all the clubs and individuals who have made this task very enjoyable and worthwhile. The final draw will be made at the Annual Convention in Saskatoon.

RESOLUTIONS:

Sixteen resolutions have been submitted by clubs for review and presentation at the AGM. These resolutions will be presented at the club, district and regional levels, wherever possible, prior to the AGM.
