SSAI NEWS – EXECUTIVE AT WORK

NPF AGM PLANNING COMMITTEE – Herb John, Mary Forbes, Pat Trask & Mike Kaminski. The AGM will be held in Regina in late September.

NPF Advocacy Committees – Mike Kaminski, 2nd VP NPF and SSAI is the executive liaison of the Health Committee that will be collecting seniors’ perspectives and research in regards to seniors issues on a national basis. The four member committee are: Chair – Kathleen Jamieson, JoAnn Lauber (BC), Donna Bowyer (Sk.) and Alma Johnston (Nova Scotia). Reports on Bilateral Agreements, Primary Care and Dental were presented at the Halifax conference. Several new reports are being worked on. These include Mental Health, Home Care and Privatization of Public Health Services.

Consultation – Mike Kaminski and Pat Trask met with the government’s Human Resource Committee, the Minister Reiter –Health, Opposition Critic – Danielle Chartier to present the Voice of Seniors in Saskatchewan. In addition, Mike met with MP Cathay Wagatall and SUMA Ministers of Health to raise issues and also their lack of communication and collaboration.

RESOLUTIONS: Yes, it is that time of year to reflect on the issues and concerns facing seniors in this province. While writing a resolution doesn’t really take that long, it does require some effort to research the issue and properly frame the concern and type of action being sought. These resolutions should be passed at the club, district and regional levels prior to the AGM.
