Although it is not yet Christmas, I am aware of the fact that time does go by very quickly. With that in mind, it is already time to start putting together the packages for our 2018 Walkathon. While going through the list of clubs that have participated in the past I realized that there are a number of clubs that do not. Wouldn’t it be great if we could have 100% participation.

This event is meant to encourage all the members of our Seniors Clubs across Saskatchewan to get moving after a long winter. For six weeks your club members will keep track of their daily physical activities using a formula supplied in the information your club will receive. At the end of six weeks your information will be remitted to the event coordinator and tabulated to see the winning results. All of this information will be available at the convention in June where certificates will be presented to the winners. Because of the way the calculations are done every club has the same opportunity

It is called a walkathon but other forms of exercise are acceptable. Cycling, swimming and bowling just to name a few. Also using a treadmill is an acceptable form of exercise. The Participaction website has a list of 150 activities for Canada 150 that you may find useful as well. https://www.participaction.com/en-ca.

With a dash of friendly competition, hopefully everyone will have some fun.

The dates for the 2018 Walkathon will be the same as 2017, April 1st to May 15th. Club totals must be in no later than May 31st. I will be mailing out packages to the clubs at the end of February. If you do not receive a package and are interested in joining in the walkathon please contact me at one of the forms of communication listed below.

Greetings Everyone,

By now all of our seniors’ clubs should have received the information for our annual walkathon.   If you did not receive a package and are interested in joining in the walkathon, or have any questions please contact me at j.boyer@sasktel.net.

The Walkathon is meant to help us all break out of the winter doldrums and get back to moving. Remember cycling, swimming, bowling and using a treadmill are all acceptable forms of exercise. If there is some other form of moving you do and aren’t sure if it is acceptable please feel free to contact me. I will be able to give you the information you need.

The dates for the 2018 Walkathon are April 1st to May 15th. Keep track of all of your activities and at the end of this six weeks your information will be remitted to the event coordinator and tabulated to see the winning results. SSAI 2018 Walkathon

Dates for 2018 walkathon are the same as in the past, April 1st to May 15th.

Club totals must be returned to us by May 25th. Our tally must be done by June 1st.

There will be three certificates again this year and they will be presented to the winners at the convention in June.

  1. For the highest “average miles per walker.”
  2. For the highest “average miles per club member.”
  3. For the highest “percentage of club members walking.”

Small clubs have the same opportunity as large clubs, so let’s all participate and get walking.
