SSAI Region G District 19 Meeting

Representatives from Allan New Horizons Club, Colonsay Senior Citizens, Kenaston Seniors Inc., Nokomis Seniors Welcome Inn, Watrous Seniors Co-operative, Young Golden Age Club and SSAI President, Lorraine Thibeault & Linda Greba from Shellbrook and Jeanette Holder, District Co-ordinator G19 from Kenaston for a total of 21 attendees.
Maria Palmer, Director Region G & First Vice President SSAI welcomed everyone to Allan and called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
SSAI President Lorraine Thibault
- Thanked the Allan New Horizons Club for hosting the meeting
- Stressed the importance of seniors’ clubs and aging in place
- Challenge from SSAI to choose 3 book titles and make a sentence from the words adding as few extra words as possible. Winner gets their SSAI membership of $5.00 paid!
- Reminder about Staying Active Challenge that runs from April 1 until May 15, keep track of active minutes and submit them to SSAI
- Reminder about Convention in Saskatoon June 3 & 4 at the Travelodge, register on or before May 25. As an incentive SSAI will reimburse clubs for one member attending the convention ($80.00)
- Reminder about ticket sales
- Any resolutions that clubs propose should be forwarded to Lorraine before convention and she will write them up
- Please send write-ups and pictures for Gray Matters to Shannon at info@saskseniors.com
- SSAI welcomes all volunteers!
Roundtable: Introduction of all present and a brief summary of the activities in the clubs. Lots of card playing, soup & sandwich luncheons, once a month potluck suppers, Ombudsman, Financial Advisor,55 Alive Driving and Forever In Motion and chair yoga activities to list a few.

Maria spoke more on convention: SSAI assigned seating to help people get to know each other
More on resolutions:
- Asked for any ideas to bring to the Government, send them to Elaine and she will formulate them into a resolution
- Spoke about on going talks with Government minister, Lori Carr about bringing the Shingles vaccine to seniors at no charge also RSV vaccine
Election of Officers:
Call for nominations for Director Region G
Earle Amendt of Watrous nominated Maria Palmer of Allan. Dianne Bod of Colonsay called for nominations cease. Maria elected by acclimation.
Call for nominations for Co-ordinator for G19 as Jeanette Holder has asked to step down. Thank you to Jeanette for the all the years spent as Co-ordinator!
Rena Pilon from Allan was nominated by Earle Amendt from Watrous. Earle Amendt called for nominations cease. Rena Pilon elected by acclimation. Jeanette has volunteered to assist Rena.
Suggestion from the floor that areas 19 & 20 be amalgamated in District G. Area 20 includes Nokomis & Seamans. Rena will send information to area 20 in the interim.
Host for Next Meeting to be end of April, beginning of May 2027:
2027 – Watrous
2028 – Young
2029 – Allan
This will be reviewed at next year’s meeting.
Nokomis talked about a break in at their centre. Other clubs shared vandalism/break in stories including Watrous, Allan and Kenaston. Shellbrook says they have cameras.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 p.m.
